Just curious... my favorite drink is a "Cuba Libre" which is really just dark rum and coke with lime juice. My wife has finally got me switched to Diet Coke (what a struggle) and now I prefer it that way.

My question is "How close to Diet Coke is the local equivalent "Coke Light" ??? smile Over the years we have had the local "Coke" and it is pretty bad soooo just wondering (I am sure I will work hard to like it just like I did going over to Diet Coke).\

Not only does the Coke Light taste the same as in the States, the rum is a hell of a lot better and the bar stool which you'll be drinking it on will likely be rooted in sand with a view of the ocean. I'll think you'll approve.

I don't think the Coke Light tastes the same as Diet Coke in the States, I think it tastes more like 'real' Coke that you get in the States. Also, the drinks here are made with bottles of Coke/Coke Light, not that awful fountain stuff that is usually used in the US. Makes the drinks much better.

Once you throw in the rum, lime and sometimes soda, how can you actually taste the coke product? I love diet coke but after a few I just start ordering "coke with rum"...

Ditto! I couldn't have said it better!

I don't know about Diet Coke, but the regular Coke in Belize tastes better than the US product to me, probably because it's made with real cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup.

As a Diet Coke addict I think Coke Light tastes more like diet Pepsi than diet Coke.

It doesn't taste exactly the same as Diet Coke--more like the Cola Light you have in Europe. But it is good--just a little different. I am not a rum drinker myself, but I would imagine a rum and diet coke would be just fine and you would be saving those calories--especially if you want more than one!

The way they pour the drinks on Caye Caulker, it was hard to remember what you were drinking after the first two.
