I gather you are trying to book a cheap ticket on an internet site. The juice ain't worth the squeeze as our Capt. Jeff would say.
If you are in Western Canada (Calgary specifically), fly out of Calgary through Houston on Continental. You'd leave Calgary around 7 am, be sitting with your feet in the sand having a beer by 6 pm.

samray, there's very little sense in someone from Western Canada flying to Toronto just to catch a direct flight to BZE and most certainly not with a stop in Miami (or Houston) on the way.

I agree, Calgary to Houston, then Continental to Belize City. The Continental plane can be kind of full, and squishy, but it is only a couple of hours. See the other thread about Miami. Stay away from that airport. We have been coming down for 14 years or so from Vancouver Island and now we fly Comox to Calgary, Houston the BZE. Except when my husband gets tired of the simple way, then we fly on points to Cancun, which usually takes us though Toronto, but what the heck at least we don't have to go through Miami again.

Well, there's another problem potentially. I see that Bram is from Edmonton. Getting a Continental out of Edmonton and for a reasonable price is doable, however, it has a stop in Seattle and then overnights in Houston before continuing on to BZE. I don't know if this is what Bram was getting at or if my original assumption was the correct one. Regardless, Bram, I've stayed in Houston on the way down and back to Roatan many times. Yes,yes, I know we are talking Belize but I don't have the same connection problems out of Calgary for Belize as I do for Roatan so I'm talking specifically to my experience with overnighting in Houston. If you can leave Edmonton and return on a weekday versus a weekend, you can get a much better rate for the flight (ie $892 vs $1344). You can get a pretty nice room at the Sheraton North Houston for around $100 (with free airport shuttle service) and just consider it a nice relaxing part of your holiday that kept you from having to spend time in Calgary.

I agree SS - overnight in Houston, early flight to Belize City, water taxi to SP, then on the beach with Belikin in hand by early afternoon!

One problem we had with Houston was if you arrive late (after 11 pm) few hotels still run their shuttle busses. We finally found one, Hamptons Suites I think it was, that runs unil 1 am. Anyways, make sure you check this out before reserving. Also, I think it was Katrina that caused this glitch, but we used to just arrive and start phoning hotels from the airport, but after Katrina, we found it very difficult to just pick up a room. So now I reserve at Hampton.

I leave Vancouver around 9PM to Seattle, leave Seattle around midnight to Houston, then a couple hours in Houston then to Belize. Works great and don't have to haul luggage and get a hotel.

I thought the Sheraton North Houston shuttle ran all night. Of course, I could easily be wrong. Anyway, I had to take a taxi one time to a Hampton-like place, the name escapes me. This was before I found the Sheraton. The reason I had to take a taxi was because the shuttle was super late picking up and I was going to miss my flight. The taxi cost me about $15, which I still figured was a good deal. However, the room at $65 with lousy shuttle connection, no restaurant, no bar, no room service, just wasn't anywhere near the deal of the Sheraton. The Sheraton having reliable shuttle, excellent service, super comfy beds, fab rooms, a pool, a bar, a restaurant, room service, bellhops, concierge, gym, free internet where I can drink red wine, pm with Chloe as I slowly get hammered . .oops, did I say that last part out loud? Oh, and all for only $99 . . lots of times I even get an upgrade to a club suite. Shoot, now I'm wishing I was taking a layover flight on my next trip. TQ!! Thanks for the offer. My idea is that you get a babysitter and come and stay with me instead.

We frequently have to overnight in Dallas on our way home from Belize. Those kind of stays are what Priceline is good for. I bid on a three star hotel, in theory that means a bar and restaurant on site. Our plane gets in around 7pm, we're at the hotel by 8:30 or so (3* seem to all have 24 hour shuttles), have a couple drinks and some bar food. Room is usually less than $US50.00.
If you don't care about food, I'm guessing you could get one star chain hotels for far less.

Hey there. We have gone down from Regina many times and the best way for us is:
Regina 6 am to Calgary, 7 am to Houston, 1:05 pm to BZE 4:20 to San Pedro.
We were very late out of Houston once but Tropic had an airplane waiting for us and we were on AC at 6:10. Makes for a long day but I like a lot better than overnighting.
US Customs clear people into the US in Calgary so their is no hangup in customs in Houston.

who was the 1:05 to BZE with? the fight I found arrives from Calgary into Houston at 12:50. I was planning on taking a TACA fight that leaves houston at 2:20pm getting me to BZE at 4:45pm.
then I wasn't sure if I should book a room in Belize City and travel via water taxi to AC the next day.

Why not take Continental all the way? Why are you changing to TACA? If you take Continental all the way, you don't have to pick up your bags in Houston and all you need do is get to the right gate. Not always, but more often than not . . on the way down, the gate where you deplane in Houston and the gate where you reboard for BZE are very close to each other.
It's on the way back, that I more often than not, have quite the hike to the next gate.

Oh, yeah, and don't stay overnight in BZ City just to take the water taxi the next day. Make reservation on the last puddle jumper flight to the island, you'll make it barring something unusual.
If you are that hot on taking the water taxi somewhere, do an afternoon trip over to Caye Caulker and back, once you have spent a day or two on San Pedro.
