Thanks to all for the suggestions for flying from western Canada. I did manage to find a flight from Edmonton through calgary to Houston and a connector flight from Taca(?)airlines to belize city to arrive at 5pm the same day.

Has anyone had any experience with the Taca flight?
Does arriving at 5pm to belize city put me in too late for a water taxi or ferri?

Great news!

Take the puddle jumper flight. Won't cost you more than staying overnight in Belize City. Make a reservation on the last flight of the day.

Bram, how much was your flight(s), all in? How long do you have to get your bags at Houston and see that they are transferred onto TACA, and then get to your gate?

I fly Taca out of California all the time and love it. (Drinks are free! wink ) You will be too late for the water taxi but not the flight on Maya Air or Tropic, which will run you about $55 US one way.

Its not cheap. Including taxes $1,419.65.
I will have 1.5 hours in Houston to connect to Taca.

I know Houston is a big airport, does this sound possible?

The range that we have to pay to Belize is anywhere from $950.00 to $1500.00. Depending on if we hit a seat sale or not. The cheapest ticket, as of this morning, (a mid November flight or a mid February flight)from Toronto is $1056.00 and they all involve an overnight each way if you are going to Toronto from the west. US Air has had seat sales as low as $450.00 Toronto to Belize but I haven't seen that price for at least 4 years. Our flight in February is $1150.00 and we get there in 1 day and back in 1 day. We start out on a flight at 6 and get to Belize at 16:40.

I guess I have no Gripe with a fare of $671. Charleston S.C. to Charlotte N.C. then direct to Belize City from Charlotte. With those kind of prices from Canada I would be a very Infrequent visitor to the Island I love.

Fortunately I have a whack of Airmiles so our November flight is basically no charge. But we pay for the flight in February because it is virtually impossible to get air miles tickets from here at that time.

Maybe see you in a November captjeff? We have only met once but we live in the same condo complex.

Actually have not bought the ticket yet. Looking into Toronto and I can go for $922 from Calgary which sounds much better.

Don't forget the 2 overnights bram! That adds anywhere from $260 to $400 to your trip and you lose 2 days in pardise!

A lot of the TACA flights from Houston say the equipment is "another airline".

Bram, if you can't do it in one day, get your best overall deal. Make it work out so that you will be overnight in Houston, which can be had for $100 or less (book through Continental or hotels.ca) Catch the first flight out of Houston to BZ in the morning, laying on the beach by early afternoon. Same thing on trip back. Take your latest flight out of BZE to Houston, stay overnight in Houston and then fly on home at your leisure the next day. Sure, you are getting shorted a bit of time in SP, but wouldn't you rather be enjoying your overall holiday?

If you can't get this booked on the internet, don't worry about it. Call Continental at 1-800-231-0856 and tell the representative what you want. Make sure that they know you are booking a round trip flight from Edmonton (probably through Seattle)and that you'll need a layover in Houston, that won't affect the price. I worked something out earlier today that got you to BZ and back for around $1080 taxes included but not including the overnight stays at the Sheraton North Houston. Oh, I should add that the flights were not Saturday to Saturday, but Thursday to Tuesday. In other words, leaving as far as Houston at latest possible time on Thursday and returning from Houston to Edmonton on Tuesday. The itinerary I bounced around had you leaving Edmonton on Thursday Jan 10 (with overnight stay in Houston) departure to BZE on earliest flight on Jan 11 and then depart from BZE to Houston on Monday Jan 21 (overnight in Houston) returning to Edmonton on Tuesday January 22.

First I tried to get you into Calgary from Edmonton (on either WestJet or AirCanada) before the Houston flight departs Calgary at 7 am. It was not doable either on the way there or trying to work out the times for you on the way back. As far as I'm concerned, it is still cheaper to stay over in Houston, than it is in Calgary unless you have friends and family here or are willing to stay in a complete dive.

Frankly, I never would have thought I'd consider a westerner flying to Toronto to catch the non-stop. Regardless, I'm starting to think if you could get a reasonably priced flight out of Edmonton to TO, *without* having to spend an overnight in TO, then maybe you should consider it. Do you have any airmiles? smile

I first started to book thru cheaptickets, canadanna, but the "quoted price" went up by a few hundred dollars when I went to book. $1106 became $1400 plus. frown

Yikes, NS! I think it changes hourly, depending on sales and availability of seats. Our fare went up about $50 overnight, so we decided to book it quickly.
