My husband and I are looking at Portofino, Blue Reef Island, and Capricorn Resort. Has anyone stayed at any of these or have recommendations? Thanks

I second Capricorn and White Sands! Portofino looks nice. I've heard some reviews of Blue Reef which weren't so good.

wasn't super impressed with VH- nice place? yes. Resort? yes. Unique? no. Expensive? yes.

We were there in April and stayed at both VH and CIL. I preferred Changed In Latitudes because it's NOT a resort. If I want to go to a resort I'll stay in the states. We found VH to be just like a US resort that we would find in Hawaii or any other sea side tropicalish location. My feelings are that if you're going to travel then submerse yourself in the local community. But- to each his own as this is just my opinion.

Wherever you decide to stay have a FANTASTIC trip and spend lots of time with the locals- eating, drinking, swimming, dancing, playing poker.......

do I have to get shots to go there? 8o)

My wife and I just returned last week from Matachica on the North end of the island. Very reasonable palapa roof casitas steps from the water and they offer some great packages. Not to mention they provide equipment such as: kayaks, snorkeling gear, bikes, etc. Free airport transfers and the staff is very accommodating as far as setting you up with the best guides on the island. An excellent restaurant, Mambo, and spa, Jade, are on the premises as well. Next to Azul and their great restaurant Rojo Lounge and an easy bike to Portofino (North) and the Palapa Bar (south). If your looking to be pampered to fullest, we highly recommend Cayo Espanto (aprivateisland.com) just SW of the airport about a 5 min. boat ride to town. Guarantee you've never experiences anything like it in the world!

Hope this helps.

White Sands! great staff, pool and bar, no restaurant tho. We have staye there twice and will go back.
That being said we have stayed at 6 or 7 places and have wanted to return to all of them. Maybe we are easy, maybe the research done on this board let us make good selections...
