Can anyone tell me how to get an XM Radio hook-up on Ambergris Caye? I can purchase equipment in the States, but I need to know how the subscription end works in Belize.
We have an XM unit here in PG but never had it activated. We have a neighbor who has Serius and it works great. He brought it down from the US and activated it over the net and pays with US CC. Does anyone know what happened with the merger, as I did not want to activate it until I know which company was going to be in control.
That explains it then, I have been looking online and found no info. As I understasnd it the systems use two different satellite systems and after the merger, who knows which system they will settle on. One will be obsolete.
I have used Sirius for 2 yrs with no problem. Certain antennas work better than others. Antenna must have a NNW exposure. Currently I have a Starmate radio and this outdoor antenna, which gives me 24-hour coverage:
From everything I have read it seems (at least in the States) one needs a southern exposure for the antenna to get good XM reception. I was looking at that system because they have a waterproof boom box that works with a couple of the XM receivers. I didn't see anything comparable in the Sirius line. I need it for use in an area that is open to the elements (but has a roof). I like the idea that it is self contained (portable), weather resistant and has a remote. A litle concerned that I don't have a good exposure for the XM. I suppose I might be able to get better reception with a longer antenna - could bring it down with the equipment just in case. Just don't want to get it all down there and find out I have lousy reception.
I've had Sirius for 5 years at least. Have a Starmate now. Never loses signal. Not even during Dean. I am using the small magnetic automotive mouse looking antenna.
Tincup, I bring my XM radio to A/C, plug it into my cd player and set the home antenna out on the veranda, works fine (unless I kick the antenna ) you should have no problem as long as you can pay with CC or bill it to a US address.
We have XM and it works fine. There are certain times of the year that the signal will fade out for a few hours. I don't believe this happens with Sirius.
