I’ve been back in the water the last three days for a two tank dive each day. The weather has become progressively worse and today there was no sun so the reefs colors didn’t shine.
Towards the end of the surface interval today a cold wind blew in. We had to hurry and get back in the water to get warm. The water is running 81° and visibility varies by site. Second dive was Mosquito Coast which I had never before dove. Everette is amazed at what the summer storms have done to the tunnels and swim throughs – moved a lot of sand out so they are deeper and some are much wider. I was really impressed with the coral formations around the canyons.
The Brain Coral at Mosquito Coast was healthy whereas those at Chris of the Abyss were badly infected and dying. At the site next to Esmeralda there were lots of Nurse Sharks and Everette danced head down with his favorite. All the sites had healthy cleaning stations. We saw two different Hawksbill Turtles and I was shocked at how close they let me get. Of course I didn’t have a camera! Some of the large Parrot Fish also let me all but touch them. No – I didn’t have a camera!
By the end of the last dive today it was bitter cold and windy. As soon as we were back on land we wanted to eat. I forgot Beach’n Kitchen is closed on Monday’s and I also forgot that today was Monday. We stopped at Sweet Basil and they were not only open for lunch they fixed me a special fish chowder which is not on the menu. It was only $22 BZ and came with lots of hot buttered bread. Tyler said he is going to start putting up specials for lunch and dinner on different days.
I’m pleased with the place, the food and the service. I hope some of you give them a try. AND – go dive even if the weather up top is crappy.
