Jane I'm guessing (there are so many orchids) its a Gongora unicolor. did you take it on the Northern river trip to Lamani? Its hard to tell until they bloom.
was it in the mangroves along the river edge?

Elbert is really the expert and how dare I second guess him but I'm thinking it is in the Bromelia family. Really weird looking. I'm not sure I would like to have it growing outside my bedroom window.

i have bromeliads that look a lot like that, but much more boring of colors. soak em once a week they are happy
