&nbsp Hi again,
here are a couple of shots from my tramping around the ruins at Xuantantunich. First, let's get a long range perspective of the principal structure, El Castillo.

&nbsp

While it's not the biggest or most impressive ruin in Mundo Maya, El Castillo is an interesting and well preserved example of architecture from the classic era.

&nbsp

This is a shot of the stairs leading up the east side of the structure. You can see the impressive stucco frieze near the top.

&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp

&nbsp

We might as well have a looksee at that frieze, while we're here. It's a fine specimen and not too badly weathered considering the centuries that have gone by since its construction.

&nbsp

Of course, the view from the top is awe-inspiring. I sat up there for a long time, taking in the view. It was a warm December day with a nice breeze-a beautiful experience.

&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp
I took the first photo in this sequence from that smaller pyramid just across the courtyard. Knowing that might help to define the distances and relative heights of the stuctures a little.
&nbsp

I guess that does it for this installment of The Danimal Does Belize. I hope you liked the photos, more "soon".

&nbsp &nbsp Dan

Not 100% certain but I seem to remember the pictured frieze is a plaster cast re-enactment so to speak.

&nbsp Hi again,
during this trip I spent a couple of days on Ambergris Caye, staying at Changes in Lattitudes, a B&B on Coconut Drive near the Belize Yacht Club. Here's two frames of the property.

&nbsp
It's easy to miss the place, hidden behind this wall.

&nbsp

Inside the front gate, you find this nice courtyard and the rooms. The office is to the left.

&nbsp

&nbsp
The property is okay. I'd stay there again. It's clean and the location is good. There's more noise from the road than I'd like and the place isn't a bargain, but it's a reasoably good place to stay and the staff is good.

Here's another couple of shots from Cayo.

The bridge at San Ignacio.

The bridge is one of the most impressive structures in Belize, I assume it's a legacy of British Colonial rule.

&nbsp

Butterfly at the Trek Stop. They run a butterfly farm on the property.

&nbsp &nbsp Dan

Photo note: The butterfly frame was shot with an old 55mm/f3.5 Micro Nikkor, which after 40+ years is still one of the sharpest lenses that Nikon ever made.
