We heard that the beaches on Caye Caulker aren't great for swimming, but, wondered about snorkelling. Anyone know of great spots to snorkel safely on the Caye??????????? We are 30 days away!!!!!!!!!!!Thanks for any info.

Great spots? I'd have to say no. You can snorkel at the split but I think great is a stretch. Snorkeling at the reef is great in my opinion. There's several options for guides to get you there.

There's a pretty good current at the split too.

Pretty good current? When the (admittedly minor) tide is flowing, it can be a good hard swim to make it across the Split without being washed a ways downstream. Swimming at an angle to the current helps though...

The split can be an interesting snorkel, grey and eagle rays, snapper, frogfish, barracuda and small aquarium fish all habitate the area,Theres a green eel and some lobster, a family of nurse sharks that are always under the cement pilings, most people never see them. theres several hours a day with no current at all, you just need to check when slack tide is, and the it will change by about a half hour each day.
