Dear sirs,

Maybe you will help me answer a few questions

Are there many mosquitos in Belize ?
Which areas are worst / best in this regard?
What diseases can mosquitos here carry ?

How to best protect yourself from mosquitos ?

Are there other smaller biting insects ?
like sandflies ?
Is it possible to protect yourself from them ?

Are there other poisonous snakes/bugs ?
which areas/islands have them ?

What are the earthquake/hurricane risks ?

Do you know anything about the immigration
rules for someone who wishes to stay for a
longer time, say one year ?

Thankyou very much for your help !

LOL...couldn't have said it better myself Bill. Sometimes you DO hit the nail right on the head!

DJ....from your questions....it sounds like you are a little familiar with issues and problems that exist in the Caribbean.
Belize follows suit....it is typical Caribbean in every aspect.

I would visit before I planned on staying here a year though.

bill, you crack me up, yet you are efficient! take the time to read back through these posts for a few weeks or months and most of your q's can be answered. there is also a site called belize.net that may have some answers too. good luck.

Marty Online happy
skeeters mainly when it rains, and areas haven't drained yet. bring the highest deet bug juice you find, then if you leave it in your bag and don't need it great. usually you won't, but bring some.

stay on the beach where its windy.
sandflies are mostly in less inhabited areas, not san pedro...
see: http://AmbergrisCaye.com/pages/town/sandflies.html

no other smaller biting, snakes, bugs on the island. Earthwuakes, no, hurricanes, who knows...

the latest i have on immigration is at: http://AmbergrisCaye.com/pages/town/immigrationpolicy.html

Of course Ambergris Caye is no more representative of Belize than New York City is of the YooEssAye. Mozzies in San Pedro are nothing like the mozzies in PG or in a swamp off the coastal highway. Ditto sandflies, fer de lances, vampire bats or any of the other Belize creatures.

Lan: I guess I was sleeping in class when they covered YooEssAye. I gather mozzies is an affectionate term for mosquito. Please hep me here. What da heck is a YooEssAye?
