We're making our first visit to BZ 1-7 March, staying at Banana Beach, plan to do some reef snorkeling and a trip to the Mayan Ruins, any advice? We booked the air transfer through BB but haven't booked any trips. Is there fishing or snorkeling right off the beach?

Will be there starting 2/15 through 2/25 and plan to be pretty active. Bringing the snorkel and fishing gear. Will update you when we get back. Also interested in any info posted. Thanks.

not off the beach, not there anyway. nice place, but the beach has a sea wall. they have an on-site travel agency. tanisha tours, sea-rious and sea-duced all do good tours.

Does the sea wall prevent beach access? I was under the impression you could swim there.

You only have to go about 200 yards down the beach heading north to be in one of the most popular beach swimming areas on the island - Mar De Tumbo. Barely any seaweed and shallow for hundreds of feet off the coast. Not great snorkeling, but nice swimming.

The seawall is short and you can swim on either side of it. Patches of seagrass but not everywhere. There are several docks right out front that you can fish off.

I've never understood the complaints about the seawall. As long as you don't mind taking about 20 steps you can access the beach on either side of the seawall. The seagrass isn't bad and Banana Beach is a great place to stay! have fun! smile

I can never remember which is better . . . safe? . . . or sorry?
