For the second time I find my dog has lost his name and rabies tags. Each was on a separate split ring on his collar and both split rings are there and intact, so they must have been removed by someone. Who on earth steals dog name and rabies tags?

Several of ours have rusted, corroded and just fallen off since we've been here. The rings seem to be more resistant than the tags.

These tags were aluminum and less than 3 months old. Last time I checked, just s few days ago, they were on solidly.

if rabies tags are required there, and the shots cost money, i would imagine some people would consider swiping one off a friendly pooch.

The shots can be had for free each year through the health inspector during the rabies shot clinics. There's also no one to enforce the requirement for rabies tags and there's no licensing requirement for pets so I don't think that would be the reason.

Probably kids or gangs of ruffian dogs.
