Does anyone know what types of food we can bring along in our suitcases, i.e. fruit, package bacon, etc. I understand that groceries are pretty expensive there.

A Hassle. Someone else should answer your question directly that's in the know. In general, I would recommend not hassling with it. Simon's service www.lagniappe-belize.com is much easier and a better value when you consider any food restrictions and/or shopping on your own.
I will have a Belikin -- put it on klcman's tab.

I second Otter. Go with Simon, at least for starters. Bacon is great from the Sausage Factory, just inland from Xanadu. There are a bunch of fruit stands all over town, with the freshest available. Why bother trying to bring anything from home?

Thanks for the info! I will check the website. Any restaurant recommendations?

If you are a fan of steaks, and have access to vacuum packed good quality beef, it may be worth freezing if your travel time is less than 24 hours?

While good Beef is harder to find,Chicken, Bacon, Sausage and Pork Chops are all readily available, and the Fish is of course outstanding!
It's rarely rocket science, it's usually just math: then again if you can't do the math.......

Get the chorizo's from the Sausage Factory. They'll stink the place up when you cook them, but mmmmMMMmmmm delicious.

I second ordering from Simon's service.

Check out the search feature for restaurant recommendations. We don't mind you asking but there have been a number of recent threads about Favorite restaurants.

A fish and a bird can fall in love, but where will they build their nest?

I'd recommend my fav places, but it's getting hard to get seats when I show up, so I'm not telling.

Mine are: Wild Mango's (particularly for lunch), Elvi's (particularly for Key Lime Pie), Estelle's and George's for breakfast. Monkey Bites is always delish too.

Don't forget a pupusa at Waraguma on Middle Street.

This is the way I'd do it. Pack a small or medium carry on with nothing but frozen food packed tight. Don't say nothing about the bag and if you loose it so what. Somebody will eat it. Nothing ventured nothing gained.
