Hey Guy's,

Great forum, I have learned quite a bit about Ambergris Caye here. But I have a few questions.

My wife and I will be renting a house one mile north of the cut 4/19 thru 4/26. Does anyone know if a pass for the bridge can be purchased?

Also,
Do golf carts and bikes need to be locked when unattended.

I am pretty sure you can buy a weekly pass but do not know the price on that.

It is always a good idea to lock carts and bikes, when you are out and about. Better safe than sorry.

ALWAYS LOCK BIKES - even if you are only a few feet away! They 'walk-away' very quietly.

Don't know about weekly but the pass for a month is BZ $150
That would be equal to 15 round trips at $10@

Golf Carts: when I rented last month from Castle Carts they told me that cart theft was a problem and I must lock the steering wheel, with the cable provided, and take the ignition key at all times. You are responsible if the cart is stolen and you don't lock it. No additional insurance available. As long as it is locked there didn't seem to be a problem with theft. The cables and/or "lock bars" also prevent the seat from being raised so the battery and gas are protected. The Castle Cart folks were great to work with.

in nov, our cart was stolen 1 mile north of the cut while we slept. it was locked, but the cables can easily be cut with snips. we were told all the keys are the same from cart to cart. the good news is, we just called moncho's and they drove a new cart up for us. the only question was: "was it locked?". we said yes, but showed them the cord and we all agreed they are easily snipped. it had rained hard that night, and we figured some workers borrowed it to get home. the moncho's guys said most carts are recovered when they run out of gas. they said goodbye and left. no problem.

Does anyone know how we would find out what the cost is for a weekly bridge pass?
Regarding stolen carts... If the company gives you cables that are easily snipped and a cart where more than your own key will start it, then how can they hold the renter responsible? Easy to say it was locked if the snipped cable is left where the cart was... how do you prove it was locked without the snipped cable??? Surely they can come up with a better locking system. Who needs to deal with stolen cart issues while on vacation.

It sounded like sweetjane said there was no problem, they were given a new cart and NOT held liable...beware of the rain, crime, breakins and the like go way up, the thieves cant be heard with the noise of the rain....

I stayed north when I was there in March, and asked if a weekly pass was available when I stopped to pay on my way over the bridge. I was hoping for a discount since I was going over the bridge one or more times daily, but I was told that a weekly pass isn't available. I hope that changes before my next trip! Good luck!

Wow Why would they not have a weekly pass discount or no discount? Just makes sense to have less hassle with cash.... Seems strange to have a toll bridge when there is no alternative... Are all bridges in Belize toll? if not then why this one?

More hassle is fine if it means more money.

This bridge was a major advancement for San Pedro (whether or not you agree with it). The resulting increase in traffic will require addiitonal $ for road/infrastucture improvements and maintenance.

I will have a Belikin -- put it on klcman's tab.
