from the Chamber of Commerce...

Aniki Palacio of the San Pedro Labour Dept introduced himself and answered many questions posed by members. Mr. Palacio said the biggest misunderstanding among employers and employees is “Holiday Pay”, especially when it comes to time and a half or double time on certain holidays. Aniki will furnish the Chamber with a list of “paid” holidays and the amounts that should be paid if an employee works on those days, and we will make that available to all our members.

Severance Pay was also discussed, with one week’s pay per year being due the employee if he has worked more than five years and is terminated without cause, but not if the employee resigns. After 10 years of employment, the Severance Pay is usually due the employee regardless of the reasons for separation.
