Hi- Where would be the best (preferably inexpensive) place to stop for lunch on the way from the airport to San Ignacio.

Thanks for your help!

There is a great air conditioned restaurant behind the bus station in Belmopan..The name Calderea (sp?) very reasonable and good.I bumped into X prime minister Musa there, opened the door to leave and ran right into him, he almost fell over!!!!!

Or you could eat at the market. The food is great and very inexpensive.
Try to get there before or a bit after the lunch hour, since a lot of government workers eat there and you might have a hard time getting a table/seat.

And Cheers is in the same area. Have stopped in all three many times, but like Cheers the best.

If you want inexpensive, the street vendors in Belmopan would be better, none of the three are "cheap". I have never gotten to know trhe owners of Cheers, but we did adopt their cat. They were out of the country though at the time.

The average price for a big meal with beverage at caldera is about $5.00 U.S, however I usually have stew chicken, stew beans and rice, veggie salad with lime juice to drink, $4.25 U.S. guess I like to splurge....

Amigo's is next to Cheers and both are good. Amigo's is more of a mexican menu. Great ice cream at Cheer's. JB's is closed.

Having only visited Belize once in March of this year and not knowing the location of Cheers I cannot comment. However, if you refer to the Anigo's about 1/3 the distance between Belmopan and Belize City, I can attest to their food being delicious and reasonably price as I ate there twice in my week stay. When I return to become a resident in July, I will eat there again gladly. I recommend it highly.

We went to Santorini's on the Western Highway, it is on the right side of the road if you are heading west, just inside the Belmopan City limits, before you get to the junction where you turn onto the Hummingbird Highway. New, clean, nice menu, can't remember the prices.

If you are driving, I would eat at a location on the Western Highway, and not bother to go all the way into Belmopan. If you are not familiar with the area, it can be confusing. If you are taking the bus, it goes right into Belmopan, and the market is my first choice. I like Bota's which is directly across the parking lot, about midway in the group of cafes.
