Hey there! I live in San Pedro and just had a shock when I saw plane tickets starting at over $1000 U.S. to fly from Belize City to Cozumel! Is there a ferry? Road? Teleporter! Anything that will get me there for cheaper!?

take a plane to corozal, a taxi across the boarder into mexico and a bus to cozumel

Ive wondered how far that is and how long it would take.

I forget how much the plane to Corozal costs, but reckon on around 50% more than to the Municipal - it's further and uses more fuel. Allow maybe US$30 for your taxi ride (but do book it in advance - post here if you don't know who to contact). The bus to Playa takes 5 hours and goes about hourly 24/7; a few months ago the fare was US$18, though it may have gone up slightly. Then you walk or taxi to the ferry terminal right by the bus station that annoyingly you won't have come into, and the ferries are quite frequent. I forget the cost, but it's not a lot.

You can comfortably do the whole trip in a day.

You sure you saw flights from Belize to Cozumel, rather than to Corozal? But then $1000 doesn't add up. It's US$82 return SP - CZL, with the journey as per above.

There was / is a Canadian airline flying from Toronto to Cancun and then on to Belize, but it seemed a sketchy schedule at best, and the guests we had do it could have got off the plane in Cancun and caught the bus and arrived at about the same time as they did flying, due to ground delays in Cancun.

We are coming down from Cozumel next weekend. Taking the ferry over to Playa, ADO from Playa to Chetumal, Menzies Tours and Transfers from Chetumal to Corozal and Tropic to San Pedro all for about $188 for 2 people. We are leaving Cozumel at 7am and should arrive in San Pedro about 4:00 (we like a little cushion time though). If you aren't leaving until after that, I can pm you after we get there and tell you how it goes.

It is a little bit of a long day but worth it. If you are going from SP to Mexico don't forget about the hour time change - you will go forward an hour.
