I was topless on a boat today, in full public view.

I get asked this question a lot in my store. I would have to differ with Cooper's opinion of topless bathing. The police wouldn't arrest you for it, but they would probably ask you to put your top back on (while ogling you at the same time) I know this because I've seen it happen. Belizean women are very modest, and many don't swim in bathing suits, but in shorts and a T-shirt. If you want to go topless, it would need to be on a peir south of the village near the airstrip, or north. Its just not done openly, unless you're European and don't care about local customs. I don't mean to sound like a prude - BECAUSE I'M NOT - its just not done openly.

And for your other questions: Barrier Reef Sports Bar which is on the beach, right in the middle of the village has free wireless internet.
There are several stores to buy food, Chan's Super Market, Chinatown, J&L are to name a few. The meats are chicken, pork and beef. For fresh produce, there is Miss Julia's which is located on Front Street across the street from Amanda's Place, there are also several other fruit stands, one is on the side street that runs next to Agave restaurant, around the corner from the bank. The fruits and vegetables which are in season all year are banana, pineapple, papaya, watermelon, tomato, cucumber, peppers, onions, carrotts, cilantro, squash. Mango and avacado are seasonal and are coming into season right now. For fresh seafood, check out the peirs on the east side at around 4 p.m., for fishermen cleaning their catch of the day.

we don't want to expose to kids.. or to those who are offended.. that is not our intent.. but to get that tan all over effect..
it will be at our area of the beach, sout of the airport not all over town..

OK, Cybercayecaulker..I go to the split at least 5 times a week.for an hour or so at atime with my dog..true this is a conservative country. mostly Catholic..and in my opinion its a bit rude to go topless in view of the faith of the decent folks here..but in summer almost everyday I( see at least 2 girls topless,up to 5 or 6.usually European. they seem to need a back up..in 8 years I have never seen a police ask them to put their top on.although I have seen them pass by. I have never seen anyone going topless except around the split area, and in 8 years I have seen you down there once..so I am wondering where your info comes from..Sorry if my pastpost seemed flippant..I thought the question funny, and was trying to make a joke.

Well thanks to all for the info. Like we said we dont want to offend anyone. We have rented a place south of the airstrip and was hoping it was ok on the pier or right in that area around the rental.

I'm pretty sure you can get a "topless discount" on any local tour, but only on days that end in Y!

BTW, I've only been to the split 3 times and saw topless women 2 x's and totally nude dude jumping off the diving board x 1. No one seemed offended by any of them even the quite ugly, "must have been some really cold water" (to quote my wife) dude who paraded around naked and jumped off the board twice I guess as a joke or dare.

Only my 12 y/o and 16 y/o sons were overly excited about the topless girls. Didn't bother us nor did it seem to bother anyone else.

My only suggestion is.....WAIT TILL JULY TO GO! We'll be there then:)

I would say wait till you get there and decide for yourself if it's appropriate. You'll see. Very conservative country. Don't be an "ugly American" tourist. Have respect for the place you are visiting.

We have nothing but respect for Caye Caulker. That is why we came on here to ask if there is an area to lay out then great if not we respect that. The last thing we wanted to do was offend anyone.

it's an old well known saying about the way many American tourists act while on vacations. Not limited to Americans I would guess and not my invention.

I would say by these ladies even asking if it is appropriate, they have taste and respect, therefore I have confidence they will use their best judgement - good luck on those tans and have a super vacation.
