Let's hope the bubble has busted. I believe the main contributing factor to the high cost of everything in Belize is the ridiculous cost of fuel.
Fuel for tractors to tend the fields, fuel for trucks to bring the goods to market, fuel for the boats and planes to bring goods and people to the cayes.If you were to compare fuel costs here to the minimum wage, and then compare the same in the U.S.
If minimum wage in Belize is 3.50 bzd and fuel is over 10 bzd a gallon;
then in the U.S. minimum wage is $7, fuel would be $21 a gallon.

A ticket roundtrip from Cancun to Detroit has been on average $350 U.S., now is $550 U.S.

Can anyone comment on fuel prices in Belize and what is expected in the near future. Here in the US, we are around $4.00 a gallon and it is expected to stay that way. It is driving up prices for everything including air fare. From what I have read about Belize fuel prices have been high for a long time. I wonder if Belize will experience further increases.

Where did you get the information that gas is supposed to stay at $4? Remind me not to use that source for my finacial planing.
