Let's hope the bubble has busted. I believe the main contributing factor to the high cost of everything in Belize is the ridiculous cost of fuel.
Fuel for tractors to tend the fields, fuel for trucks to bring the goods to market, fuel for the boats and planes to bring goods and people to the cayes.If you were to compare fuel costs here to the minimum wage, and then compare the same in the U.S.
If minimum wage in Belize is 3.50 bzd and fuel is over 10 bzd a gallon;
then in the U.S. minimum wage is $7, fuel would be $21 a gallon.
