Rain Can't Stop This Jam - Placencia Lobsterfest 2008

~ For Immediate Release - June 6, 2008 ~

"Placencia Lobsterfest 2008 will be held June 27th, 28th, & 29th as planned" announced the Placencia Lobsterfest organizing committee after an emergency meeting held yesterday. Rumors had been circulating that due to the recent storm system that had affected Belize resulting in major flooding in some areas of the country and loss of the Kendall Bridge, one of the bridges along the Southern Highway, that Placencia Lobsterfest 2008 was going to be postponed to a date later this summer. "We want to assure everyone that has made plans to join us for our festival as well as those still making plans that Placencia Lobsterfest is going to happen and has the potential to be the best one in our ten year history. We are confident that people will be able to come in by air, sea and road to get to the great family weekend. We've also decided that a portion of this year's proceeds will go to the aid of those affected by Tropical Storm Arthur" , said Placencia Lobsterfest event coordinator Elysia Dial.

This year's Placencia Lobsterfest promises to have all the returning excitement of recent years including performances by the Gilharry 7 Band, Kenny Gladden's New Creation Band, the All Star Steel Band, a variety of numbers performed by St. John's Memorial School's students that recently competed in the Festival of Arts, as well as competitions including the Tipsy Tuna Toss, the Driftwood Bar Kayak Challenge, a tug o war tournament and so much more. The Placencia Fishermen's Day Saltwater Fishing Tournament is to be held the 28th & 29th and already has more than $8000 in cash, prizes and registration prizes to be won. The Placencia BTIA Lobsterfest Raffle prize list has already climbed to more than 70 available prizes including a day sail on a chartered catamaran courtesy of the Moorings Belize and that list keeps growing. New to this year's festival will be the Tumblers' Association of Belize and an exciting fireworks display the Saturday night of the event.

Of course Lobsters are the stars of this weekend and you'll find them in all forms at Placencia Lobsterfest - grilled, skewered or stewed, in a pie, on a pizza, with a cold drink - if it can be made with lobster you will find it at Placencia Lobsterfest!

Make your plans now and get ready for a fun filled weekend!

This year's Placencia Lobsterfst was great actually. The official Press Release should go out later today but the turn out was good. Loads of people came from all over to attend this year's fest. The committee really went the extra mile to make it all come together. The two major bands for the event ferried their equipment across the river and the Inn at Robert's Grove provided a truck to freight in the equipment and Radiance's Taxi Service brought in the band members. The fireworks even made it via the same route. All in all a good weekend.

We hope to see everyone next year at Placencia Lobsterfest 2009 - June 26, 27 & 28!!!!!
