We are down to our last few days here on AC and want to make a day trip to Caye Calker. We could take the water taxi but we'd then have to leave by 4pm when the last taxi back to SP leaves.

Another option would be a tour of some sort which includes snorkeling.

What would you good folks recommend?

If you want to explore CC, take the 8am water taxi there and come back on the last one. You'll have had plenty of time to see it. If yoiu want to go snorkelling then consider one of the tours, but don't expect long on the island.

When I did a day trip to CC all we did was sit at the bar at the cut - i went swiming and my husband drank at the bar - we walked a bit and ate and came back. Not much to see there. Oh and we went on a sunday or monday and everything was closed.

Ernie, hush!
Merc, just take the day trip. Leave SP any time between 8 to 12 (plenty of time to experience CC), but make sure you are on the last boat back to SP. Times do vary. buy a round trip in SP. I had a great experience in March with 2 day trips to Caye Caulker. Nice change, way lay back, but I perfer SP, but it is your choice for witch Paradise!

There's actually quite a lot to see there, but you have to get off your butt and walk, or maybe cycle. I managed to do most of a circuit of the island on a Sunday visit a few weeks ago, and saw many things that I had never even suspected were there. I found it very interesting - for a one-day visit. A second day would work as well, but after that I might be scratching my head a bit. Possibly THAT's when I would choose to sit at a bar all day.

Well as I said - it was a Sunday or a Monday and all the shops were closed - so that is why we sat at the bar. We walked the beach and looked at the houses and the cemetary and that was about it. We ate pizza someplace - the only place that was open. I just would not go again. And the water taxi was packed on the return - so I just dont think it was something I would do again.
