I am sad to hear this. My husband and I were at Banana Beach on Saturday morning getting ready to go home and a monkey (probably the same one) was underneath our balcony. Apparently, he was hanging around the empty lot next to Banyan Bay and followed a couple of tourists. Some of the people in the resort were giving him food and he seemed OK but I was really concerned and offered to call SAGA but one of the women said they knew the owner and were going to announce something on Reef Radio so that he could come and fetch the monkey. I was so worried that the monkey would bite someone as some kids were fascinated by him and the monkey was nervous (waves were crashing over the sand). Before we left the resort, the monkey climbed one of the balconies and someone who was hopefully the owner was trying to coax him down. Sad ending--monkeys as many other animals belong in the wild, not as pets.

Monkies do not make suitable pets under any circumstances, which is why even monkies being used as assistance animals, have their teeth removed.

Monkies are intelligent, reactive, wild animals. They have not been domesticated and anyone keeping them in captivity really requires some level of expertise.

It is not unusual for wild animals to behave in a manner that is unpredictable to us. Sadly it is the animal who takes the blame.

Many years ago there was a jaguar that was kept as a pet. The woman who owned it was named Sherry Risser. She lived in the apts. where the now defunct Jerry's Crab Shack is. It was too sad to walk by and see this magnificent creature in its cage. Unfortunatly, when it could no longer be cared for, it could not be re-introduced to the wild. It's teeth had been filed and declawed. What is initally a novelty, usually ends inevitably in a tragedy.

Oh, the dog was fine. I haven't seen Laura since Friday night but they had pictures of her wounds in the paper and they look a lot better (her hands were swelling up like balloons on Friday.)

A picture of one of her arms is on the Ambergris Today website (see link in upper right of this page.)

Your wife is a magnificent creature or has she had her teeth filed and been declawed?

Thanks, that is great to hear. BTW, are you still involved with SAGA? Need a new shirt, my parrot loves the one I have a bit too much.
