Coming to AC next month for the first time. Any suggestions for a $30-$60 US hotel with ac? Looking for something clean, and secure (will have scuba gear), don't need anything fancy,(tv, telephone, etc.) Only need the ac for sleeping at night. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Look into Spindrifts, Lilys, Conch Shell, and Ruby's. All close to town and in your price range.

$60 will get you a double with AC, ceiling fans, cleaned daily, sheet every two days. Right on the beach, 2 blocks from airport. Samll deli on site for coffee, johnny cakes, fruit. Walking distance to everywhere!

As has been noted on other threads, Conch Shell is looking really good these days and a downstairs room, would fit into aerodog's budget plans.

Check out www.tripadvisor.com
Rea!l reviews by people that have been there.
The site is easy to use.
I have not gone wrong in all my travels. Read about the places and choose for yourself.
Enjoy

I haven't checked lately, but the last reviews on tripadvisor for the Conch Shell were from before the new owners renovated. So, in this regard at least, one should not look to tripadvisor for the info.

not always - in fact, often not... The deal with tripadvisor is that it is not unknown for establishment owners to "pad" the posts with repetitions of the inaccurate info contained in their ads. I'd rather get my info from people where there can be some give and take - but everyone's different in these things.

I can never remember which is better . . . safe? . . . or sorry?

In fairness, I use tripadvisor and have had success. Still the reader must be able to separate the wheat from the chaff.

Wow! Thanks for the hotel suggestions. Will be arriving in the morning, so I will have time to look at several and choose. Have found this works best in the past. First time to Belize, but have been going to the Yucatan for 20+ years now. Getting too commercialized for my tastes. Thanks again for the help, any other hotels come to mind, please list them. Looking forward to being there!
