What happens to local non-expat Belizeans that end up in hospital? How is their care paid for? i.e. In the case of an emergency need for hospital care and tests, surgery due to accident, heartattack, stroke and the like?

I know that often there are benefits and sponsorships (as tacogirl pointed out in another thread) but I'm really wondering about the cases where there is no advance warning. How do minimum wage or no wage Belizeans get emergency health care?

like anywhere else in the world .....the poor suffer without....

If they can get to Belize City, they can go to Karl Heusner to receive emergency care even if they have no money. Its a long ride from San Pedro though.
