Ragman- "tax and spend" is the mantra of the right for the Democrats. the facts are actually quite different.

I suppose Tax and Spend is different than Reduce Taxes for the rich then Spend like drunken sailors. When Clinton left office, his tax and spend policies resulted in a Surplus. Now we're faced with the highest deficit in history. Sure sounds conservative to me.

Tax them rich folk, they don't pay their fair share anyway. They eat up public services like a lion and are such a burden on the rest of our society. They are leeches. We should take away all their money and give it to the poor non-working stiffs who deserve it (for whatever reason).

There are so few Republicans in my state that I wouldn't have anyone to vote for in the primaries.

The problem is, we have to look at what is best for the USA and it ain't Obama. If he was CINC 6 months ago we would have lost the war in Iraq after all the blood & treasure spent there. Right now we would be witnessing total chaos there and thousands more lives lost. At least now it looks like there is a chance for some good to come out of this.

I do find it ironic that the only people who claimed Iraq could sink into chaos are the same people who told us the war would pay for itself. Same people who told us it would last for 6 months and the same people who told us there were WMD Iraq. At what point do we stop listening to these people?

McCain would hopefully hold the line on spending. Something that Bush failed in. With Obama in, we go back to all 3 branches of gov. controlled by Liberals, and his list of spending just over whelms me. McCain probably is not going to get a lot done because of congress and the senate but I don't think he will be afraid to use the Bully pulpit and veto power. (on some issues there are enough of conserve democrats)

What evidence do you have he will reign in spending? HE VOTED for all of this massive spending and fiscal irresponsibility/ Not once did he stand uo and demand spending cuts. Not once did he threatened to filibuster a pork filled spending bill. Not once. And nwo we are to assume because he is teh president he will change his spending habits??? And Obamas list of spending frankly some of it is needed. This belief by many conservatives of as Grover Norquist once said "shrink the size of Govt so we can drown it in bath water" in a lot of ways is immature. Govt has a responsibility to protect the people. In order to do that you mucst fund it. The free market will not solve all problems just as the Govt cannot solve all problems.

President Bush cut many critical areas such as FEMA and 3 years ago we saw the results of that. This country has numerous problems that HAVE to be fixed. Obama has stated he will pay for this with cutting so much of the fat thats in Govt already. Will he accomplish this? I dont know but what i do knowcis John McCain has been nothing but a Spendican when it comes to our money.

Energy is going to be the biggest issue coming up. The Dept. of Energy claims optimistically that wind will contribute 30% of our power by 2030 Solar in the single numbers. Nuclear, Oil & Coal are off the table with OB. Gas might as well be, you need to drill. Where the hell are we going to get out energy from? Don't tell me conservation. I don't want to go back to a cave. I want jobs which are directly related to energy and its cost. I want heat on a cold night and AC on a hot day. Again, where is all this energy going to come from?

When do we start to ween ourselves from oil? At what point will solemner say we need to invest in alternative energy. NO ONE is proposing switching over night. But we have to start and thats all Obama is talking about. Start acting responsibly when it comes to our energy needs. You crawl before you can walk.

What the Bush/McCain philosophy has been continue to maintain our addiction with oil. Its a tired old view and if we continue on this tired old view other nations in this global economy will surpass us. We have to start. This nation must become energy self-sufficient. Its linked with our national defense. When we become less dependant on foreign oil we are safer. And no offshore drilling is not the answer when we consume more then the amount of oil that MIGHT be offshore. Its a gimmick, something the Republican party I am sad to say has been reduce to doing for the last 8 years since they are apparently void of ideas.

The McCain of old may have had some credibility, which one could argue seperately, but the current one has pandered to the most fringe elements of the republican party.
His knee jerk reaction to world events is not the quality I would look for when selecting the person closest to 'the button'. Nor is his attitude towards those less fortunate than having married into a family worth $100 Million.

Isnt it ironic Jhill to hear people complaining about name calling from the party that gave us "Flip-Flopper" Kerry and this lovely image from the 2004 Republican National Convention

See that on her chin? Thats a "Purple heart band aid" that was worn by many at the Republican National Convention as a way to mock Kerry's Purple Heart. In actuality what they were doing was mocking all those who were wounded in combat and received the Purple Heart.

People tend to be concern with sensitivity and respect only when they insult is directed at them.

By the way who wants to lay odds we wont see too many of those Purple Heart band-aids at next week RNC?

Draven, what is it about Ambergris Caye that led you to this site? For me, I was looking for fly fishing info before coming to look at properties for sale. I will be buying there when I find the right place. How about your interest in AC?

Oh, and on the thread topic:

McCain rakes in $4.49 million on Palin Day!

Sorry about that. Back to you Draven.

Bobber- unless line 22 or your 1040 was $250,000 or more you didn't qualify for those big tax breaks. I guess your definition of rich is different than mine.

I would LOVE to se the reaction of the GOP if Obama picked a VP with the lack of experience like Palin!
Bill O' and Rush would have a field day!
