Good stuff Marty, did you happen to look at which were the right to work states?
This was true when I wrote it in 2003 and is unfortunately even more true now
The sad fact is that we are a divided nation. I’m sure by now the famous county by county red (republican) / blue (democrat) map of the country, as voted in the 2000 election, will be familiar to all of you.
We live in a red area,(it was Montana back then), however each major TV, cable and news network is headquartered in a blue state. the NY Times, LA Times, Washington Post as well as USA today are all based in blue states !
Despite all of these facts, in 2000, President Bush carried 2434 counties, representing 143,000,000 people and 2,427,000 square miles of the lower 48 states
Al Gore carried 677 counties, representing 127.000,000 people and 580,000 square miles.
Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota, wrote this about the 2000 election:
"the map of the territory Bush won was (mostly) the land owned by the people of this great country - not the citizens living in cities in tenements owned by the government and living off the government."
Professor Olson has produced another interesting new fact. he looked up the crime statistics for all of these counties and came up with this:
average murder per 100,000 residents in counties won by gore:13.2 average murder per 100,000 residents in counties won by bush: 2.1
Doesn't that make you think just a little bit about our neighbors on the coasts, and exactly who it is who supports each of the differing political philosophies?

Thanks. But calling the president imcompetent is not subverting my mission despite what you think. But I appreciate your candor. Must be a military man. Never said it was. But if you are actively subverting your missions, you should be shot for treason. If you are not actively subverting you missions, then I stand up for your right to spew as many halftruths and ignorant spin as you wish. And yes, the "despite what you think" comment pigeonholes you in the ignorant spin category. It's quite obvious that I was stating the opposite, but being a good liberal requires an obvious distortion of the facts, so well done.

Instilling fear of dissent into the populace through intimidation is a well known Fascist tactic. Not saying that's what's being proposed here....just sayin. And yes, the president is incompetent, regardless of where you live or are stationed. And I would suggest you look up the word Treason because I don't think it means what you think it means(ht to "The Princess Bride")

Austrian who feels I should be shot now blaming one of the great president for todays trouble AND defending slavery...Bold I will say that. You are a very good and well studied liberal. Take half of a statement, ignore the qualifier, assert that half truth as the statement of the whole and use that to make your point. Some times you have to do ugly things to defeat evil. You should knwo this better then most since my country had to defeat your countryman who once tried to takeover the world. Do you think I'm from Austria??? I mention Austrian economics and you think I'm from Austria??? OK. You've just lost any credibility you had in arguing free market economics.

Slavery is morally wrong, regardless of free market energy one way or another. Free markets never would have eliminated it on their own as slavery is basically free labor, so would be difficult to compete against if one were to actually employ labor. Free market could have eliminated slavery if popular opinion swayed against slavery, but that wasn't my point. States rights could still have abolished slavery without a civil war and we would be better off today, blacks, whites or whatever, with the federal government limited to the point it was pre-civil war.

And I know exactly what treason means, thank you very much.

The Constitution of the United States, Art. III, defines treason against the United States to consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid or comfort. This offence is punished with death. By the same article of the Constitution, no person shall be convicted of treason, unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or on confession in open court.
Doesn't sound at all like what I've been reading.

If I remember correctly, Gore took the popular vote by over 500,000. Those stats don't appear to show that, unless it's a willful misrepresentation of past history. And oops, guess what, this was on Snopes.com: http://www.snopes.com/politics/quotes/tyler.asp
