Leah-Ann Offline
As mundane as this is - it's Saturday, chore day in my world. Having always lived in old houses with porcelin tubs, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to clean the fiberglass monstrosities in the new house. Have tried everything from baking soda & vinegar to a cleaning product containing hydrofluoric acid. I can't get that pebbled surface on the bottom of the tub clean. cry Help! Anybody have any suggestions???

...a well placed wood pallet in the tub should do the trick.

LA, for what it's worth, I have used baking soda with excellent results. Afterwards, I rinse it with a weak bleach solution, and it comes out sparkling clean. Be careful of using anything that scratches..once they are scratched, they can't be cleaned very well.

Bill, unfortunately it looks like that's exactly what I've done with it for the past four months! shocked
Jesse, thanks - but I googled weeks ago - already tried most of the stuff found there.

Lemme see... they look like sponges - you just get them wet and scrub away. Does not have the "ingredients" on the box. Just check your cleaning products section in the supermarket. (I assume that you can get Mr. Clean products there as well.) They work like a charm - I just wipe the surfaces with paper towel to dry. Not caustic at all - you don't need rubber gloves or anything. Just don't stick them in bleach.

If they do work, LA,(and no reason to doubt Nutsy) perhaps you could share them with Mrs. Pug. I'll bet she could find a really good use for them as well!

I've got the pebbled surface shower stall and I use Comet with a scrub brush, not a scrub pad. It takes time, but does clean the surface.

OK, Nova. I just want to say that prior to today, outside of reading pug's posts, I had no idea it was possible to be so utterly fascinated and so completely disgusted all at the same time! grin

Those magic eraser things are incredible, the way they work with pretty much no effort. Watching all that gunk come off the bottom of my tub was really repulsive yet still amazing to watch. Who woulda thunk? I'm sure I owe you something. That's two in a row you've hit out of the park the last coupla days! wink

Leah-Ann, try also calgon and liquid soap. This mixture also works well for cleaning anything greasy. Soak bar-b-q grill grates overnight and the next day hit with a stiff brush and they are clean. Try it.

I was wondering if you could get them there. They are a little pricey, but it seems there are a bunch of generic brands and they are all made out of the same stuff.

something that I use for taking marks off of things is a scrunched up used dryer sheet. Used Bounce dryer sheets work well for removing crayon on hard surfaces, scuff marks on floors, and soap scum on tubs though I have never had to use it on a pebbled surfaced base.

If you found them pricey there Leah-Ann I can only imagine what they would cost here. Are they outrageously priced Natalie?

I had Sj bring in a swiffer duster cause I knew it would be cheaper than buying it here.

terrielinn love used bounce sheets for cleaning dust on my lap top and tv screen.

Uses for Bounce;
Repels mice and ants, put sheets near where they may be, such as in storage areas.
A sheet in a book or album keeps away musty odor.
It repels mosquitos, keep a sheet tucked in your belt or pocket.
Takes away static from TV screen or computer.
Dissolves soap scum from shower doors.
Keep a sheet in clothing drawers or any drawers for a fresh smell, also hang in closets.
Put a sheet in your vacuum cleaner.
Run needle and thread thru a sheet, the thread won't tangle when you sew.
Put a sheet in empty luggage when storing.
Put a sheet under your car seatfor fresh air.
Soak a pan overnight with baked on foods in water with a sheet in the pan, it unsticks the food from the pan.
Place a sheet in the bottom of wastebaskets and garbage bins.
Good for collecting cat hair from furniture and clothing.
Takes away staic from blinds, dust with a sheet and it helps stop dust from settling.
Wipes up sawdust like a magnet.
Keep a sheet at the bottom of your clothes hamper.
Keep in shoes and especially sneakers.
Keep bees away when golfing, stick a sheet in your back pocket.
