Oh, my pa's not gonna like hearing that! There are a couple of categories which constitute exceptions to your rule, H20. One is Baptist preachers and I'm pretty sure mrs. reaper is another one of those excepted categories. wink

You're kidding, right? How about the fact that there had not been a deadly terrorist attack on our soil before 9-11. Unless, of course, we want to count our very own Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols, or that high schooler at Columbine, or . . . *

Your statement is hardly accurate. About a month after 9/11, 2 Democratic senators and several news outlets received anthrax. Five Americans were killed and 17 more suffered serious illnesses. Is there some rule about how many have to die before an event is considered a terrorist attack?

And Joel Hinrich's explosive suicide in Norman, Oklahoma in October of '05 sure looked like at least an attempted terrorist attack.

Does the 3-week shooting spree of the “Beltway Snipers”, John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo, in 2002 (10 people killed, 3 more wounded) count? I recall some type of Islamism connection.

Do US embassies in other countries count as "our soil?"

Besides, McCain's campaign says some more terrorist attacks at home would be real beneficial to him right about now. smirk

* yes, I know the reality is that there actually were a couple of confirmed terrorist attacks on US soil prior to 9/11; however, accuracy doesn't seem to matter much in these posts

Well, they wanted someone from outside Washington. Couldn't get much further. Also, not part of the same old s... or the old boys club. A person with a clean slate, nothing to weigh her down.

The caveat is that we have no real idea as to what we are getting with this person other than an unexperienced unknown.

Is that truly a bad thing?

I said I knew there were a couple of pre 9/11 attacks. The other one was in July of 1996 when a pipe bomb exploded during the Olympic games in Atlanta: 1 dead, 111 wounded.

there are lots of things I wouldn't let you get away with, but publicly admitting you were being sarcastic rather than presenting something as fact isn't one of 'em wink

Why Yes, Leah Ann you are right again as usual....

Hows that for a public display of sarcasm?

Atlanta was an act of Domestic Terrorism, which has tended to be kept separate from Al Qaeda or other religious based attacks, when discussed in this forum, which is why I did not cite it as an example.

A subversive motivation, such as McVeigh's tends to be an attack aimed at the Government of the country, not the general population as in the case of attacks against our way of life

III Qualifications and Candidacy

Print this section
The qualifications for the vice presidency are the same as those for the presidency. The vice president must be a native-born American of at least 35 years of age who has resided in the United States for at least 14 years.

Under the Constitution’s original provision for election, the person receiving the second highest number of electoral votes in the presidential election became vice president. In the event of a second-place tie, the Senate decided who would become vice president. The 12th Amendment, approved in 1804, specified that the Electoral College cast separate ballots to choose the president and the vice president.

The 25th Amendment enabled the president to appoint a vice president if there is a vacancy in that office. The appointment is subject to approval by a majority of both houses of Congress. There was no procedure for filling the office prior to the adoption of the 25th Amendment in 1967; before that time, when a vice president resigned or died in office—or assumed the presidency—the position of vice president remained vacant until the next election. In the 19th century six vice presidents died while in office, and one, John C. Calhoun, resigned from the post in 1832.

Presidential candidates select their vice-presidential running mates, usually after consultation with political party leaders. Candidates for the vice presidency are usually selected to balance a party’s election ticket. A presidential candidate from the Northeast, for example, might choose a vice-presidential candidate from a southern state with the hope of winning more votes from the South. Thus vice-presidential candidates usually earn a place on the ticket because they have personal traits, regional ties, or some other quality that complements the person running for president. Because of the need to appeal to voters across the country, vice-presidential candidates tend to be leaders of national stature, such as governors and experienced members of Congress. Once they have finished their terms, vice presidents often run for election to the presidency itself.

gee, terrielinn, seems like the Dems Presidential pick and the Gop's VP pick are qualified to me.
Was there something both are missing or am I just stupid>
DONT ANSWER THAT! smirk wink
