Friends:

We have reservations at Mata Chica in January for our honeymoon. After hearing about their heavy damage (roofs gone, etc.), we e-mailed them asking what sort of shape they're in; they say they'll be open again, better than new, by Dec. 15.

Naturally, this being our honeymoon, we want everything to be worry-free. Any advice or comments or first-hand observations on the situation would be much appreciated.

Marty is right on that one. Nadia is working her tail off(literally) to get the place better than b4. And it was really nice before. You won't be disappointed.

Marty and Dawn, appreciate you taking the time to reply. What has us skittish about this is a story my fiancee's friend told her about a trip he and his wife took to Bermuda not long after a hurricane there. They were told by the resort owner there that everything would be terrific, don't cancel, come on out. But when they got there, the place was a shambles, it was overrun with cockroaches, and there was hammering and sawing going on day and night. Our friend says it was the worst vacation they ever had.

Now, if this were just any old trip, I wouldn't care about a little disarray. But this is our honeymoon, the start of our lives together, and we want everything to be perfect. Mata Chica sounds wonderful from everything we've heard, read and seen on the Web about it, but we're just a little unsure.

Has anyone posted pictures of the place since the hurricane so at least we could see how far along things are? And has anyone else out there had a first-hand look? Would appreciate any other comments.

Give 'em a break! They've got almost two months of reconstruction ahead of them and the place will be better than new when they're done. They won't book anyone in there until it's perfect so what good are photos taken now? Be patient!

FYI - maybe too much information, but:

on my honeymoon in venezuela, i had a urinary tract infection and my husband got badly sunburned. 17 years later, we are still together and raising a family. it is only one week out of your life. it will always be what you make of it. i hear mata chica is really beautiful. best of luck.

Mark,
Not to worry...everything will be just fine by January. You some have very knowledgeable people here who don't have any $$$ interest in steering you one or the other. January is a great time to go, and you are staying at a first class place. They won't let you down.
