Any way to fly from Ambergris to Cancun - or Belize City to Cancun these days? I know there is a 5hour bus...but is that the only option?

It is possible to fly from Cancun to Chetumal and then take a Taxi across the border. I think George Moralez can give you the info: http://gettransfers.com/

Best from San Pedro would be to fly nonstop to Corozal Town (four or five flights a day each on Tropic and Maya Island), then bus or take a transfer across the border, and bus to Cancun. You could also water taxi to Corozal Town.

Short, I don't think there's scheduled service any longer between Cancun and Chetumal. (Except via Mexico City, very expensive and time-consuming.) Alma de Mexico discontinued its service about four or five months ago.

You could do a charter, though.

A number of posts made in the past suggested that the reason that there are no flights between BZ and Mexico involves a subsidy paid to airlines that fly into Mexico, to attract tourism. If this is so does anyone have a handle on the nature of this subsidy?
