I'm in a foreign land as we speak and I disagree with the president on a whole host of issues. So after I complete my deployment I should be shot?

The answer was there in the quote you posted: did you travel to the foreign country in order to subvert the work of the US government? ....No I don't think so?

I understand that you have a differing opinion on many things than I or some others posting here do, but if your fervor leads you to say Black every time someone else says White, then some of the very valid points you make will become lost in the rhetoric?

I loathe this talk of surpressing dissent. Dixie Chicks went through this ceause tehy spoke out against the president in England. They said it there and they said it here. So could careless. Dissent is how our nation was started. God help us if we ever lose that right.

Fair enough? So how did Jimmy Carter do this? Did he give away states secrets? Did he organize a militia to invade the United States? Did he supply funds? or did he just give his opinion? Barring any of the above I do not see how he conspired against our nation. And since all I am doing is the same voicing my opinion I guess I should be taken out behind the chemical shed and shot...V for Vendetta refence by the way

Would you care to define how you see the difference between subversion and verbal dissent?

Here would be an example to show how I define the terms:

Were you to verbally disagree with an order from up the chain of command, and complain to your squad mates about it, that would be dissent, and almost normal practice, especially in a non combat situation

Were you to attempt to organize an effort to ignore or change the policies dictated by those with decision making power, that would be subversion and the outcome could be a courts marshal and/or a accusation of treason or sedition.

Carter, for better or worse, does not act as a private citizen when discussing state department issues, which is why ex presidents usually do not get involved in "State" visits except at the request of the sitting president.

Jane Fonda just gave her opinion, except she did it sitting on an enemy AA gun

If you do not see the difference, please tell me why, bearing in mind this started with a discussion of Carters meetings with Syrian (and Palestinian ?) leadership?

Edit Reason: carter info after additional DD post

From the news today, the Governor does not sign off on deployment of National Guard to Iraq. She isn't even in the loop according the news reports.

Yeah I saw that but then Alsaka has to be unique cause I spoke with a Sgt who works at Brigade and he said all Gov sign off on deployment orders. Maybe alsaka is different cause of their location.

And how were those meetings different than sitting Senators going over their and having those same talks? They weren't authorized to do that. I seem to remember that being part of the discussion at the time.

I'm trying to remember exactly who said (wrote)it, but there was a comment somewhere on this message board in the last 2 or3 days that Carter should be jailed for his action abroad.

I will try and find it: as far as source material, you have not heard me refer to Fox or Limbaugh in this thread, while you have alluded to The Daily Koz, and when I posted a link to the Heritage Foundation , I also included an AFL-CIO link, so again to ensure credibility, debate the issue, don't sling the mud smile

My preferred sources for entertainment are Glenn Beck especially his full hour interviews, and Michael Medved, and interestingly its H20dog who listens to Rush and Hannity and drives himself ga ga!.

I do watch Fox, primarily for Megan Kelly: a smart, well dressed, well spoken smoking hot attorney....if only there were some of them around here wink

Edit Reason: massage board may have been a freudian slip!

Actually its Olbermann and Hannity! Both sides have their moments. Almost masochism.
