Hi Everyone!

We wondered if you guys had any input on where to stay in Hopkins for a night or two on our way back from Placencia in Feb/March 09?

We don't need anything fancy, just clean and maybe ac for the hubby!!! And of course on the water!!

Thanks

I like Jungle Jeanie's, also called Jungle by the Sea. It's south of the village, on the water. Pleasant cabanas, but no A/C. Hopkins Inn is another nice moderate place. Don't think they have A/C, but I may be wrong about that.

Another spot that's not bad and has A/C is Parrot Cove, which used to be called something else-Cove that doesn't come to mind at the moment. It's in the same area as Beaches & Dreams, south of Jaguar Reef. The rooms in the main building are smallish but moderately priced, and there's a pool. Fancier apartments are also available. Eating breakfast there earlier this year, I saw both a manatee and porpoises just off the beach.

Then of course you have the more upscale places. Hamanasi is the class of Hopkins, with Jaguar Reef and Hopkins Bay/Belizean Dreams condos also very good but not cheap.

We really enjoyed our stay at Laru Beya. Well located within stumbling distance of King Casava with a nice beachfront, clean cabins and even internet.

I know how you feel. We did our 16 day jaunt through Belize with only reservations for our stay in San Pedro. Otherwise, we just winged it. Have a great trip!

Greetings All!

I'm a single gal from the US and a writer. I am planning on coming to Belize possibly the first part of February for at least 3 months and possibly 5 or 6 months.

I need to rent a cabin... or a tree house... something cozy and NOT fancy at all. My biggest requirement is CLEAN :-D! I also need a kitchen as I love to fish and want to eat all of the local and wonderful fruits and veggies... and I write cookbooks! Having the internet available would be a real plus but if that's not reality, then I would need to be within walking or bicycle distance of an internet cafe.

I've done a ton of research but have never been to Belize (however, have traveled internationally a lot and solo)... In my research and with some very kind email responses (I already feel as if I have new friends in Belize!)... I think the Hopkins area is where I would love to be...

Can anyone please help me with some contacts for an extended rental in the Hopkins area? It would be much appreciated!

Also, I've seen photos online of the Hopkins Pre-School and am wondering what I would need to do to explore doing some volunteering while I am there (no, I don't have much money... that's why I need a reasonable rental... but I'd love to do some giving back while I'm there). Thanks!

Thank you in advance :-D... I can't wait to get to Belize and am hoping that it will eventually be my "permanent address!"
Warm regards,
Jan

Just back from Hopkins --- I stayed at Hopkins Cabanas -- there are three small cabanas right on the beach (one w/kitchen, other two w/fridge, micro, coffee mkr) --- owned and run be a nice couple that runs the Lebah Drumming Center. It's a cool spot! I looked at about 10 properties on the island last week trying to find the perfect spot -- and this was it! What was great about it over say Jungle Jeanies is that it is very close to the main part of the village of Hopkins. (Jeanies and many others, including the two spendy resorts, is about a mile south and a really bad dirt road)

It's a great spot if you're looking for a real Hopkins experience. Enjoy.

Sheryl from Oregon . . but in San Pedro for a couple months

NO pics yet. . . my digital camera died a week before I went - ugh! I took some on a disposable - if they are any good, I'll post.

The cabanas are like a good size hotel room - a queen bed and then single as well. Deck on front with hammock (of course!). The three cabanas are pretty close together. They are set back from the beach about a 1/2 block -- but there's nothing but beautiful beach between the cabanas and the ocean. Some trees packed w/coconuts - we couldn't resist picking a few. Only down side - no hot water. But they are priced very well to take this into consideration. (I'm a big wimp to cold and didn't really mind it) I stayed 3 days. GREAT little spot a short walk up for lunch - authentic Garafuna food and you feel like you're sitting in someone's beach front yard.

Enjoy.

I lived in Hopkins for several years. Try Hopkins Inn, owners Greg and Rita are great. Walk to Oliver's Windsurf bar for the best Cosmo in all of Belize!

You may also want to try the Tipple Tree in Hopkins. It's owned and managed by a British gal (Trish) She lives upstairs and rents out 3 rooms and a cabin for groups. Prices range from $30-100 a nite. It is ocean front, lovely beach (with Tipple Tree!), hammocks, porch, coffee, very pleasant if basic.

Lucky you! An extended stay in BZ! I have property near Hopkins Village (just seafront land- no stucture yet) and have been going down there for years. I believe you'll love it. A good contact for you might be Trish at the Tipple Tree (room rental) You can contact her at info@tippletree.com Trish has been there a while, built a place for herself + a few rental rooms (reasonably priced too)She's British and knows the area and the people quite well. Good luck

Seems like you've asked this same question a few other places, including on this board, where you have gotten some good answers. Your title to this message, though, is different -- Where to stay in Hopkins. Is that what you meant to paste into this post?
