That is the reason she is on the ticket, and why Obama was so amazingly naive in not putting Hillary in the VP slot; yet another to add to his long history of judgement errors?

That argument might make for a cute little post - but it isn't the truth. McCain has been very open about the fact that his first choice was Lieberman. His disappointment in not being permitted to select Lieberman has been very openly discussed by campaign advisors. Less than a week before announcing Palin, McCain finally gave in to top advisors and let go of the idea of having Lieberman as his running mate. Even then McCain didn't consider Palin. His next three choices were Pawlenty, Romney and Tom Ridge. He was talked out of Romney and Ridge, but Pawlenty figured he was it until just before the announcement was made. He was young, the RNC figured they could argue he had more experience Obama, and that he wouldn't tick off too many at either end of the spectrum.
Palin's name had been mentioned, but she had NEVER been considered viable - so much so that the vetting process had never even been started on her. McCain's campaign flew her to Ohio at the last possible minute and McCain met privately with her for less than 2 hours. Based on that conversation and almost nothing else, he figured she would pacify the conservatives in a way Lieberman never could, so he picked her. He called Pawlenty the next morning, barely minutes before the public announcement, and told him he'd decided to "go in a different direction."
Pawlenty wasn't the only one who was shocked.

Let's be honest, whatever McCain's rationale was, he didn't select Palin because he agreed with her politics or because she had any great experience.

Bobber, I am sooo with you!! This has all become so redundant and ridiculous!! Left . .right . . trot out the latest slander you find somewhere in cyberspace and think you are making the definitive statement about why the other side is wrong/evil/despicable/contaminated . . it's all very sad, really, that this passes for political discourse. Just vote for who you like; we're screwed either way.

I think that's what I said, although It would not be unheard of for you to debate that smile

Let sme try again?

If Obama had picked Hillary, then the primary reason for McCain to pick Palin would not have existed: she is on the ticket to appeal not to the hardcore Hillary supporters, but rather to the women, many of whom are uncommitted, who will make up around 54% of voters, and who, like the 91% of blacks who support Obama without being racist, would like to see a name attached to a physical body they can feel identification with.

The fact that her stated, whether or not proven, policies have appealed to conservatives that were not previously engaged is a problem for Obama to deal with that would not have existed with a Hillary selection and a Lieberman counter.

I didn't say it was right, I said it was happening

Ditto to what Bobber said above. And I agree KC, as I don't care for either candidate. This stuff is hardley black and white and promises are just lip service until there is action. The chips will fall where they will.

Oh, but H2O dog said my state was already decided. Maybe so, but one bad apple don't spoil the whole bunch!

Many uncommitted women, don't think so. Polls are just polls.

IMHO, Hillary never wanted the VP position.

Just to set the record straight, if it would have been a Leiberman/Gore ticket, I just might have voted differently.
