i have to say, and although i dont know details that i'm sure are salient, i find it irresponsible for the board to leave the island with no vet. Now, please understand, i have a 15 year old cat that is actively dying, and should he need to be put down, there isnt anyone now to help him in the coming days.

I realize this is self serving of me, but there are MANY others that would concur. The termination that of heather was originally planned (so i hear) for friday, it couldnt happen until monday afternoon (thank god, cause i was able to get the poor kitty seen in the AM). Clearly if it could wait the weekend, it could have waited another week or two till the replacement starts. In the meantime, how many pets and animals will suffer?

I simply needed to say that i think this act was, at best, irresponsible.

Lara, we lived there years ago, and had a very sick cat who needed emergency medical treatment - we were able to arrange to get Dr. Mike DeShield from Belize City to fly over on tropic - we paid for the flights and of course his fees. I think he's taken a GOB appointment years ago and may no longer be available, but if you need help in the interim, maybe you can fly Dr. Sheila over. I am so sorry to hear of your worries, I wish you the best with your cat.

Having to fly a vet who is already busy on the mainland over to San Pedro is not a very good option. Here is hoping that the new vet arrives sooner than later. This situation puts the many animals on the island in a most precarious situation. This unfortunate situation did not occur overnight and really does need to be resolved. As someone that both depends on vet services on the island and has donated to SAGA in the past, I am most disappointed.

I agree, I only offer that as an option until a new vet is in place. SP needs a vet, absolutely. It sounds like there is a plan in place to see to that.

a lot of home medication/remedies or they died. Brutal but true.

We have lived without a vet on this island before, we'll make it through again. Hang tight. If you have an emergency, Dr. Sheila and Corozal is quick plane trip away and Tropic will allow pet crates on the plane.

Heather has always been good to me and my small zoo also but I'm sure Saga did not make this decision on a passing whim and I'm sure their actions are justified. Cut them some slack, they are doing the best they can with what they have.

I would like to add that in order to ensure the best possible care for our animals in the future we all need to donate to SAGA. This organization driven by a team of people who get paid zero dollars and work way too many hours and in the end all we can do is sit back and complain about not having a vet for the next few weeks.

Sometimes dificult decisions need to be made.
