That is my original question.

Maybe because Costa del Sol is not one large project but the name of an region of AC with several projects being built such as Brahama Blue. Also South Beach is on the reef side and close to Hol Chan.

"BNU, aren't you slightly dissappointed that you will have a waterpark directly across the road (literally) from your future home?"

YES

I have said many times I think the project is in poor tastes. I wish I could have helped Jeff design the project but it's his money and his land.

I do want something to develop down there though. Currently the road is no more than a shallow pond and the mosquitoes will litterally run you off.

A happy medium would be nice, but again it's not within my control.

I understand your position on South Beach now that I know where you live in relation to the project verses other projects but what about those that don't live on our end of the island? What about those that don't even own property in Belize at all getting so fired up about South Beach but not the other projects? That is what is difficult for me to understand.

"Maybe because Costa del Sol is not one large project."

Check the plot map from the link I posted. HUGE development consisting of 16 "zones" for development and an 18 hole golf coarse. Looks much larger with a much higher environmental impact than South Beach to me.

How was that?

Read the Reef Village threads here. It was a very combative experience from what I've read.

Speaking as someone who's future home is directly across the road, I'm looking at this as a major boon to the value of my property. I may not want to live across the street from a waterpark, but I can sell my land to some shlub that does and move myself to another part of the island with the major profit I made on the land. If it never takes off, then I don't have to worry about the traffic and noise anyway and I'll just build there. Win Win to me.

you asked who wrote the eia,,
pepe garcia usualy writes these things up.
if you ask me, everyone i have seen him write is heavily slanted in the developers favor.
i feel it's all a waste of time. they never disapprove anything.

Jason, I'm well read on the Reef Village postings.

But again, why the bad rap?

Did he do something illegal in order to develop that property? I doubt it.

I think it was just unpopular with some of the locals who live in that area and some boarders who just visit that area. Personally I don't care for it either but again not within my control. Obviously plenty of buyers liked it just fine as it is mostly sold out.

bzinus - it sold cuz it is cheap to buy, and it is cheap to buy so he can make the capitol to build it, and the next project down the road, but you are right - i just don't care for either RV or SB's design, or what a mess the area was while they were building it. their time-share guys were (not sure now) much more forward than any others, and we got hit up time and again. JMO.

you have a valid question. one good answer is what the other guys said. plus, i read up on SB, but havn;t had the time to do so on CdelS. i did note this (not that it has anything to do with any of this):

http://sanpedrosun.net/old/08-282.html

the only donation i could find from reef village was $50 of trashbags for a clean-up project, and SB gave a sponsorship donation of unknown amount (but under $40K) to the costa maya festival (hmmm, wonder if that gave them free advertising and/or exposure?). now while donations are by no means required to make a developer better than another, showing good will to help solve the infrastructure problems to come due to increased popultion are worth some respect.

i'll try to do some homework over the weekend re: costa. ok?

Bramah Blue is on a separate island. Have you been there? I personally don't like that one much either. Toured it in August. But at least it is somewhat tasteful...

Barbara, please get your island map out. Casta is part of mainland AC.

http://www.wikimapia.org/#lat=17.9380719&lon=-87.9784298&z=14&l=0&m=a&v=2

But again, island vs mainland AC are not pertinent to the topic. Either way access is gained via San Pedro. Shopping, traffic, diving, snorkling, ect. all increased in San Pedro and on the reef either way.
