This mornings Reef Radio program with Senator Eiden Salazar discussed this and found that the entire story is no longer true.

The school should be relocated away from the future site of Ma'lo Ha Resort. That's why they built it in the middle of the swamp to begin with!

I heard the program and as is becoming more frequent much of the dialog was in Spanish. Thankfully Francis Wilson ran in (literally) and explained the situation. There does appear to be some pressure coming from somewhere to shut down the site. BBoy I think you are off base about MaloHa Resort. And I did not get the impression that the threat was not real. I think we all need to stay on top of this.

I am hearing that the consideration is to relocate the school - which I believe has been the goal of those that have brought up health and safety concerns over the past couple of years.

The site is not the ideal location for the school. Having 2 young kids myself I couldn't imagine them attending a school that doesn't have a decent playground, floods in the rains and high tide, and a few other factors regarding health and safety.

Perhaps improvements will come along with change.

I can't imagine the mentality that orders the school shut down with no warning in mid-term...throwing over 500 kids into the street with no alternative for them. Outrageous!
and that order came from a supposed Christian administrator at the Anglican Diocese...

I think that the sewage is a major problem and has never been adressed other than a letter to both newspapers which was followed in the next week editions by publishing petitions of how perfect the school is and that the sewage was and is not a problem(I am not a surveyor but the sewage imo has to be a major problem as it is going into the lagoon-I think) -they also tried to have an exorcism outside a particiular bar-go figure

So a mini-treatment plant would solve the sewage problem?
Apparently the exorcism didn't work.

The school was built in an area where there were a lot of children and many of them were unable to attend school – some because of cost.

The proposed new site, the abandoned medical facility, is as far away from this area as possible – across from Victoria House.

Back in the beginning Reef Village said they would build a sewage disposal plant that would not only service the project but also the school and the San Mateo housing. Then the mud slinging began and all bets were off.

QUESTION: Who would benefit from getting rid of the school? Who could then dredge and fill and make a profit on that little piece of almost land?

QUESTION: Why can’t the GOB pay Reef Village to dredge and fill the school grounds?

There are many students attending Holy Cross that live on the south side of the bridge. Some are living as far away as DFC (which is further than the medical school in some areas.) The commuting would simply be an opposite flow of what it is now.

The med school land doesn't need to be filled, it will be on city water, sewer etc. I would imagine there will be a safe and healthy area for the kids to play.

Why would anybody want to fill up the swamp and keep the school in its current position when a more ideal place is available?

Safe and healthy? Did they not find rotting corpses inside the building not long ago that had been there since the place closed?

Minister Heredia just attending the SPBA meeting. In his address he made a point to assure the membership that Holy Cross school will not be closed down. He was one of the first officials of this community that asked for Vernon and Francis Wilson's help back when the school started. Granted, the school grew too fast for the infrastructure to keep up, but at this point, with just under 500 children enrolled, there is no discussion of this school being shut down at this time.

The school has the full support of the Minister and the Mayor.

In the meantime the Minister - our area rep - along with Ministers from other departments as well as the Local authorities are all working on plans to help improve the living conditions, sanitation problems, lighting issues etc. etc. in the San Mateo area.

Did anyone see the morning show this morning? I heard (later) that Vernon Wilson was on and named names. I sure would like to get more than just gossip on that one.
