I have been a company man for too long and have been trying to talk my wife into moving overseas for the last 2 years. I am sure that y'all know the story, I work 60-65 hours a week, my wife works about 50 hours a week. Between keeping up a house and caring for three young kids, I feel like I am not even alive for myself.
We went to Bezile two years ago by ourselves and thought seriously about not returning. If I could invent paradise, it would be Belize. (We stayed on San Pedro Town.) And I haven't even seen it all!
When we returned to our rat-race, I began researching evey possible thing about the country and what it would take to move there. My wife has started feeling a little depressed lately and is just tired of the life. 3 months ago, she told me that she wanted to pack up, leave our jobs, friends and family and start a new life in Belize.
My question is this, how many of you on this board have done the same thing? Are you happy with the choice? Can you offer any recommendations? How are the schools? What is ONE thing that I MUST bring from the states?
I have read and read and read, but I haven't spoken to any of the locals and gotten the real story.
I have enough money saved that we can live comfortably for almost two years. I also plan on renting my house in TX out while we are gone (just in case.) We already have a tenant and they are just waiting for the word. My wife and I are coming down next week for two days so that we can look at a couple of properties that are for sale.
I am very excited about this choice, but I am scared at the same time. I am going to raise three young children in another country. This is an amazing, amazing move and I need some encouragement.

Yes, there are a bunch of us that have done that but you should not try to purchase property on a two day trip! You'll need enough time to look at the entire area where you want to live (Ambergris Caye?), consider several possibilities, and investigate each carefully. And you certainly willl want to look into the school situation while you're here too. Email me at " [email protected]" and I'll give you more info to think over. www.InvestInBelize.com

We stayed on AC in Sept,at the Seven Seas Resort. The manager,Dom, had moved to AC from Nice,France, for the same reasons you gave.He and his wife now have an infant, and he is very happy. You might want to e-mail him at the Resort," [email protected]" (I think that is right, check the lodging section on this board). I am sure he would be happy to answer any questions.Good luck! Mary and Scott in Kentucky

We don't plan on purchasing anything on a two day trip. We are just going to look at a few properties. We have been talking to quite a few people (I think about 10) about buying some property. We are going to AC next week, we are going to have to plan another trip to San Pedro ASAP. We have been talking to someone that is selling a timeshare there and that is the one that I am most interested in. I really, really liked San Pedro, of course, I haven't been to AC yet. Thanks for the E-mail info, I appreciate it, REALLY! I will probably be here regularly with many questions. Hope I don't get too annoying I feel almost guilty thinking how I am going to make any money down there with all of the poverty. I am not going to need to find anything immediately, I plan on doing absolutely nothing for the first few months that I am there. But if I plan on making Belize perm., I will have to find something eventually. I might just start up my own thing. The thing that is bothering me the most is leaving Major League Baseball ;(. I have SOOOOOOOOOOO much going through my head right now Sorry for rambling! [This message has been edited by KobeJoe (edited 10-28-2000).]

KobeJoe, You have me confused a little. You talk of San Pedro and Ambergris Caye as if they are two different places. If you have been to San Pedro then you were on Ambergris Caye...right? San Pedro is the only town on Ambergris Caye. Or are you talking about a different San Pedro? I have heard of a place called San Pedro Sula (sp?) but that is Costa Rica or somewhere. As for moving, my husband and I bought property about 5 years ago there on AC and hope to start building this next year. No young children though. Good luck!

I guess that my earlier post did sound a little confusing. Yes, I understand the fact that SP is a town in AC. I guess that I should have explained my frustration. When we come down next week, the owner of the timeshare will not be available to show the house. We will be able to see the outside of the home, but will have no access to the inside. From what I have seen thus far, the home that we are going to go back and see is the home that is the best deal. I won't even consider buying anything until my trip at the middle of Nov. I want to see this timeshare property that is for sale first. I have taken the whole month of November off of work, so I really hope to get something done next month. Maybe then I can live off of Panty Rippers at Big Daddy's d

Kobe....definately talk to Jesse, he can give you lots of helpful info
I'm not sure I understand what you mean about buying a timeshare. Timeshares are sold in weeks. Or else you own a unit and keep it in a rental pool for timeshare exchange.

Kobe, My husband and I did exactly what you are wanting to do and we did it with 4 children. Ages 9,9,7,3. We have learned a lot and will be more than willing to answer any questions you may have. Schools are one of my specialties. I spent one whole month investigating all the possibilities. It will make a difference on the age of your children where the schools are concerned. Why don't you email me direct. I would love to talk to you about it. [email protected]. Dawn Barefoot Watersports
