I did some hiking over the weekend at Cockscomb Jaguar Reserve -- GREAT spot not far from Hopkins. I'm an avid hiker at home . . and try to do a BIG hike once a year. Victoria Peak is 3,675 ft -- I've hiked higher mountains in the US northwest -- BUT . . to get to Victoria Peak you cross through a lot of jungle first.

There were signs about it on the hike I did - It said 3 days trip and you need a Belizean guide. I'd love to hear if anyone has done it. I'm guessing 3 days there and 3 back???

I'd love to plan it for sometime in '09.

We had a guest try it several years ago. He got near the top and bailed on the rest. It was extremely muddy, and therefore slippery. There is a very good guide who does this trip but from this one person's experience, I would suggest you attempt this in the winter months when it is dry. I'll look up the guide's name and post it here.

3 days in and 2 days out, use guides from Maya Center, Greg Sho is a great start. They don't call it Heartbreak Ridge for nothing..

My husband did it with a couple of Mayan guides. It was hard, but he loved it!

Patrick is a superb guide, so go on his advice.
