We ended up having to go to Spanish Lookout for ours and it was expensive. A 5 pound bag of seed for Bermuda grass was almost 200BZE

Prossers, Brodies, Midwest Steel. Though it's mostly grass for forage - not lawn smile

I've been filling my yard with seaweed, and when it's bedded down and thoroughly washed by rain so there's no salt left I want to cover it with sand/soil and plant grass (or similar ground-covering plant). Can anyone suggest the best way to do this, and what varieties I should consider? I want something that has good dense cover, doesn't need constant watering (once it's established), will withstand the influx of weeds and other vegetation, and is self-limiting on growth so it doesn't need frequent cutting. Back in Britain I know there are varieties that will do all this, but what about here?

Why not grow what is natural to the island? Come by my place up north (OK not Elbert’s north) named Birdland. From the road in to the curved drive is mostly covered with grass that SPREADS. Never needs cutting or watered and can handle a decent amount of foot traffic.

All you have to do is cut out patches and plant them like hair plugs on bald men and they will grow and in no time at all cover your desired area. Peter – give me a hoot and I will take you up.

I was concerned about the “bumps” in some of the areas I saw and I learned that this grass just grows over whatever is there so it is best to remove debris before sodding.
Here at the condo some expensive grass seed from Illinois was brought in. It needed black soil, water and mowed. Some bad areas are being replaced with the local grass.

Remember – Dorothy, this is not Kansas. When in Rome and all that other balderdash!
