Is it reasonably easy for an American to get a job in the cayes? I will be graduating from college with an English degree in May and hope to relocate. Does anyone know what the requirements for getting a job at the library are?

Have you seen the library? In terms of libraries...it's small.
That's a job that a Belizean could handle and they will be considered first. Have you thought about teaching?
At any rate, Belizeans are up for grabs first. If they can't find a Belizean to fit the bill or none apply, only then would you be considered. Sorry, that's the way it works and rightly so.

Good luck in your search.

It is not easy to get a job that should go to a Belzean. Also, once you get here, you will need to apply for a work permit. We always need volunteers, though. One job that is needed is tutoring and SAT prep.PM me for more information.

Right. That's completely understandable. Yes, I suppose I could teach...or do anything really. How hard is it to get a work permit?

It can be a challenge. You can search this board using the keywords work permit and get a lot of first hand information.

Some work permit can take a few months and cost about US$1,500.00, I believe you still have to be in Belize to apply, but then again I have been away for over a year. Good luck
