I was told the same basic story yesterday that Basil Jones was infact a man who lived in that area and acted as a lookout for approaching Spanish ships.
When one was spotted he would get in his boat and make way to St. Georges Caye to warn them.

Another interesting tidbit.....same person told me that the Spanish were actually in a very weekend condition on arrival to Belize.....fleet was plaqued by Cholera.
Supposedly they buried about 1500 of their crew on Caye Caulker.

I guess the Baymen had a litttle help, huh?

This topic gets more and more interesting!

Interesting Sandshaker!

So it appears that ol' Basil was look out and not other Baymen.

What a patriot, I see a skinny little Englishman, Basil, climbing up the coconut trees to look for ths Spanish!

Hey "I Belize"

One quick comment...

The Welsh take extreme pride in being Welsh. Not to be confused with English... ever.

Having said that, I guess you now know I am of Welsh heritage!

Cheers
