Yesterday as we were taxing out on our flight from San Pedro to the International airport we noticed our large Igloo ice chest was still on the luggage cart. Since I was in the co-pilot seat, I asked the pilot about it and he said it would be sent on the next Tropic Air flight since we were full. We waited to check in at American Airlines until the cooler arrived, but it wasn't on the next Tropic Air flight, or the next. The luggage guy called back to San Pedro and was told that it would be on the next flight. When it arrived, the duct tape and rope that we had put around it had been removed and the lid virtually ripped off of it, broken at the hinges. We were told by the luggage handler that brought it out to us that they had to do that to get it in the plane (they flew it over with us in one piece!). American Airlines was calling boarding for our flight at about the same time all this was happening, so our damage claim at the Tropic Air desk was abbreviated to say the least, and although the supervisor signed the paper, the full description was not written down of what happened.

Has anyone else had an experience like this? I'm hopeful that Tropic Air will do the right thing and reimburse us for the cooler, but was just curious if this is typical for them.

I have used Tropic Air several times and never had the slightest problem. They have always answered my e-mails really promptly and have always been really helpful. As far as I know, this is definitely not typical...Karin

I too have used Tropic on many occasions without a problem.
You may want to make contact via e-mail to make sure the claim is being processed and that all information about your claim was received.
I sure them will make things "right" with your claim.

thirteen years on Tropic and no problems...
one exception...I had hurriedly decided to
change clothes the last minute and tucked my
black jeans into a carry-on size bag and
check it in...gone by Houston...the jeans
that is....that is one reason why when I
pack I put everything into plastic bags for
protection(bags were rained on once) and
so that anyone opening them will just see
the plastic bags and not what is in them...
also don't lock your bags...I had one seam
slit once on a brand new leather bag because
apparently they thought something was very
valuable inside....I also now only take our
older duffle bag luggage...nothing that says,
"I'm rich, I'm cool...."

Thanks Marty, I'll e-mail them to make sure they got the claim. The best I can tell, nothing was missing out of the cooler, it was just destroyed by ripping off the lid.

Marty is right, Steve and the Tropic Air crew will certainly do the right thing when contacted. Cheers

It's been almost a month now, and we still haven't heard squat from Tropic Air. I e-mailed the address suggested earlier, but they haven't responded to that either. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Pam try calling the office at 011 501 26 2380. A voice call explaining the problem should do the trick. If you rather their fax is 2338 although voice may be more effictive.
Good Luck
