The party I'm going w/ seems to be under the impression (though none of us have visited belize) that it is not necessary to have a reservation on the short flight to ambergris caye. We arrive jan 20, is this true or do you guys usually have a reservation?

I never made one but sometimes they do get booked up.
you can always wait for the next flight I think they go every hour but if you are late in the day you would not want to miss the last flight.. better to book and be safe.

If you have a reservation and your inwards flight is delayed past the normal time for the last flight to SP, Tropic at least will often hold planes back so you don't have to hunt for an hotel on the mainland. My record is landing at SP at well after 8pm. But if you haven't reserved then they don't know you're coming.....

Totally agree with Peter. Make reservations and Tropic will get you there that day. Great customer service. Twice my plane has been late and Tropic was waiting. When you make reservations print out your ticket and you can bypass the ticket counter and go straight to the gate, after clearing customs of course!

Even if you don't make reservations then you may have the opportunity to experience the biggest, little guy in Belize @ Jet's Bar! Jet himself!

I see there are no votes for maya.... ? I booked with them as I wasn't sure if it mattered, but they were offering a 20% discount off regular price if I pay in cash when I get there, and you know me... Always trying to save a buck!

Last time I took Maya wound up missing a cell phone from my bag when I got to CC. That's the last time I ever use them. I've always used Tropic before and never had a problem. I've had reservations when arriving late and tropic will do whatever to get you to CC or SP. Arriving early usually don't have a reservation.
