December 31st is the day on which New Year's resolutions are made, people dress up and get together with family, friends and loved ones. And at that last minute before midnight, there is a symphony that is launched with a magical countdown and ends with shouts of happy New Year, and there are usually plenty confetti, balloons, and celebration hats. The climax of the night has always been an artful orchestration of fireworks bursting into colorful designs.

But 2008 won't end the same way.

After checking with past private sponsors and local government, we could not find anyone who is spending the thousands of dollars needed to get the show off the ground in Belize City.

The pyro-technicians who would normally install and launch the pyrotechnic display into the night are on holiday and also out of the country. So it seems that there will be no fireworks this New Year's Eve and city residents will have to find another way to make their night sparkle.

With the amount of pistol totting people there, I would imagine that they hardly missed fireworks..it probably rained lead around midnight.

San Pedro enjoyed fireworks to bring in the new year. I couldn't see them from where I was partying uhumm I mean from where I was sitting - but they sounded spectacular.

Happy New Year All.

There would have been fireworks, I guess, on Nantucket except for the fact that we were in a white out blizzard!!!!! I hate snow and can't wait to get back.
