Protech accepted Amex for a couple of months when we opened, but after our experiences then never again accepted it. Our fees were very high and the money took 6 weeks to get to us. Very unattractive (for us) compared with Visa and Master.
i seem to recall a few years back at the airport in belize city, there was a guy who wanted to pay with an american express card...don't remember if it was maya or tropic, but they told him they didn't accept it...
Am Ex has always charged higher fees because their accounts tend to be paid in full each month by their users, while MC/Visa users have a greater propensity to maintain a balance, thus giving another income source to the card issuer.
It's rarely rocket science, it's usually just math, but then again if you can't do math, it may seem like rocket science
