On Monday when we traveled to San Pedro to do our investigations, the weather was so bad that a water spout, more commonly prevalent over open seas near our cayes, was caught by our camera. While it never reached land, a closer look reveals the relative strength of the phenomenon as it churned over the Caribbean beyond the Barrier Reef.
We're happy to report that the water spout caused no injury or damages. A few years ago a similar system crossed onto land in San Pedro Town and ripped through the Maya Island Air hangar at the airstrip, causing damages to two of their planes.
