It can work with any computer.

And I can take songs from my limewire and put them on there and have them to carry?

Yes

But you need Apple software to convert music files to Apple's proprietary AAC format. AFAIK that conversion is a one way process, so you can't upload songs from your iPod to a computer.

Apple have just ditched their DRM software for new songs, which restricted songs downloaded from their iTunes site to run on an iPod only. Older songs downloaded with DRM aren't free'd up, just the new ones. I haven't read how well this functions, having never owned an iPod, but it seems a great advance.

works great Peter. I am an itunes junkie... lotsa songs are in both formats so you wanna be sure to get the one with freedom of use. there's a lil icon to show those.

Also be aware that Limewire is one of the worst systems to use, full of spyware, trojans, and all kind of malware. Definitely avoid its use.

If you have decent anti-malware software and scan each downloaded file before you do anything with it I think you're pretty safe. When I go to Limewire I usually have around 30%-40% of files with malware.

Marty - do you mean that iTunes has standard MP3 and/or WMA files as well as AAC? And no DRM? Worth checking out - as I don't use an iPod I've always steered clear of it.
