BelizeWater Offline
Last night, a house burnt to the ground on Caye Caulker. My sister Wendy, her husband Darren ( Habaneros Restaurant) and their 10 month old twins got out and are okay but lost everything!

They are trying to see what they can recover today but desperately need to find a place to live. IF ANYONE knows of a place they can rent on Caye Caulker, please post here or call Darren, his number is (501)-626-4911

If you know anyone with a place that might be interested in renting long term to a family please let them know. I am very worried about theme and I know there aren't many places available on Caulker and with the babies they really need to find something quick.

Thank you so much

Darren & Wendy, the owners of the popular Habaneros Restaurant, lost their home to fire last night.

The home and all its contents were completely destroyed.

Sources say the cause of the fire was presumed to be electrical, relating to a hot water heater.

According to several sources, the house could have been saved had there been a steady supply of water in the area. The fire department responded timely and professionally but found themselves unable to access water. They had to literally dig a make shift well first.

Many of the houses in that area have water piped to them from a well located at the airstrip administered by the Village Council. Information we have received is that the water supply from that well has been sporadic at best, with the village council cutting off the water supply at nights.

One irate resident who contacted us actually said: ďItís been weeks that we only have water on and off. Itís ridiculous that the Village Council doesnít care. They out the pump at night for what reason I donít know, because we need water. Also, the other day, we thought we didnít have water because of WASA but it was because the Village Council didnít pay the light bill and BEL cut the power out for four days. Also our streets are so bad the fire engine couldnít get close cause the streets are muddy. Itís really bad. It sucks!Ē

Unfortunately, Darren and Wendy lost everything and need help. If you can help Darren and Wendy with anything, a nightís accommodation, some clothes, etc., please get in touch with them at Habaneros.

Hi,

I am very sorry that Darren and Wendy lost their belongings, but at the same time I am so sad because it was my husband's house (Javier Novelo) that burnt down. I am not sure when we will start to build again since the house has been classified as completely destroyed.

Instead of pointing fingers, we should all get together and try to help each other.

It is true that we had the house insured, but we all know that insurance only pay half the damages. If anyone would like to help in anyway, please contact Javier novelo at 605-6110 or Celina Novelo at 607-1440.
