In previous trips to Cuba and the Dominican, I had collected assorted soccer (shoes, shirts/shorts) and baseball (gloves, tops) to bring down for the kids in the area. I typically had donated them to some staff at the resort for redistribution.

I am looking at coming down to AC in March and would like to do the same if there is a need. I have not made any arrangements as of yet so I do not know where I am staying.

Would this type of donation be accepted somewhere on the island ??

Definitely there are many places on the island that would love to accept a generous donation like this.

In short yes, and it will be gratefully accepted.

We had a family stay at Casa Caracol last year who raised US$1,500 from a sponsored walk and then went out and bought a ton of good used kids Softball/Baseball kit they then donated. It was distributed and it's use administered through the San Pedro Business Association, and helped start up a kids League. You can contact them to see if they need any of that kit topped up, or if they are looking at any other new sports projects. Otherwise try contacting Pablo Ico on the Sports Council at the San Pedro Town Board. Not sure either would appreciate their contact details on a public forum so PM me for email details if needed.

Shirts aren't such a problem for the sports as the kids can wear anything coordinated or bought locally, but specific kit, shoes, safety gear, bats, balls etc are the way to go.

Wonderful idea! We had some guests come with their family of three a few years ago. They own a bed and breakfast somewhere in Canada. They collected all of the soccer uniforms from all of their kids and their kids' friends and brought them down. The socks and cleats seem to be the hardest thing to find here, so those would be helpful as well.

Since then there has been a kids baseball team start up as well, so I'm sure those items would be appreciated as well.

Thanks in advance Bankman!
